Books for Boys

The Books for Boy's Project is a collaboration between boys' schools from Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
The aim is to identify and analyse the titles and types of books that appeal to boys of different ages.  This ongoing project will create an age-based continuum that demonstrates the types of plots, characters, styles, settings and themes that engage boys in their reading.
By applying the tools of literary analysis, the Crowther Centre will use the lists to develop a continuum that provides information about the style, setting, plot and characters that boys with which boys engage.
Crowther Centre will publish regular updates to the list of titles, but members will have access to the full study, including the Books for Boys continuum.

The data from the project will be available online to Crowther Centre members.

Key Goals

  • To investigate national and international trends in boys’ reading choices

  • Create a longitudinal study to identify classic titles that boys will read

  • Make available to members a continuum that provides descriptions of age appropriate, high interest content for boys
